District Governor

Mary Lou Hermes, DTM

Mary Lou Hermes, a retired schoolteacher and principal, has been a Toastmaster since 1997. She is a charter member of Plainly Speaking 9601 in Plains, Montana and of All Ways Talking 8408 at Pablo, Montana. She was club sponsor for the latter club. She is also a member of Skills Club. Mary Lou has held every club office except Treasurer and was a Select Distinguished Area Governor.

Mary Lou served as District 17 Lt. Governor Marketing in 2002-2003 and received the Excellence in Marketing Award from Toastmasters International. She served as Division A Governor in 2003-2004 and last year was District 78 Lt. Governor Marketing.

Aside from Toastmasters, Mary Lou is interested in literature and drama. She has directed many high school and grade school plays and has written and produced two musicals for mixed casts of adults and children. She is also a volunteer for a domestic abuse hotline and is chairman of her church's Pastor-Parish Relations committee.

 Lt. Governor Education & Training

Bonnie Steiner, ATMS

Bonnie Steiner is a life long resident of Bismarck, ND.  She is currently employed as the administrative assistant for Vision Technology, a software development company, and receptionist for Dakota Collectibles, the worlds largest supplier of stock embroidery designs. She originally joined Toastmasters to help her develop impromptu speaking skills, but has continued her involvement in Toastmasters because it is also helping her develop her leadership skills.

Bonnie participated in Speechcraft in 1997 and joined Bismarck Toastmasters Club 717 in January 1998.  She served as President 2001-2002 when her club was President’s Distinguished.  She has also served as VP Education, Treasurer and VP Public Relations.  In 2002-2003 Bonnie served as Area 3 Governor (Distinguished). In 2003-2004, she was named outstanding Division Governor when she served Division C.  Bonnie has also been a club sponsor and club mentor twice.

Bonnie’s other passion is clog dancing.  She has been a member of the Capitol City Cloggers since 1993.  She also spends her time tending to her yard, flower and vegetable gardens (pulling weeds), walking on flat walking trails (no mountains – sorry Montana), going on short car rides, and singing in her church choir.

Lt. Governor Marketing June 06-January 07

Pat Garcia Duggan

Pat Garcia Duggan, the Lt. Governor for Marketing for 2006-2007, knows a little bit about Toastmasters!  She is a DTM, a recent Table Topics Contest winner for District 78 (2005), a past Division governor (Division F, eastern South Dakota, 2004-2005), Area Governor (Area 4, in old District 20 in 1996-1997), and a former Toastmaster member of Capitol 2309 in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and Pioneer 272 in Moorhead, Minnesota, before joining her current club, Brookings 3712 in Brookings, South Dakota.  Her first ice breaker speech was July 24, 1990!

Pat’s goals for her first year in the Leadership Trio (along with Mary Lou and Bonnie) are to fortify and promote the identity of District 78; to provide resources to our club members, officers, and district leaders to strengthen our existing clubs; and to make Toastmasters available to more of our friends by developing new clubs.  If you want to be part of the LGM Team that will make this happen, whether you know yet or not what you might be able or want to do, drop a line to Pat at pwgarcia@brookings.net.
