We got to know one another by pretending to be reporters and questioning our fellow Toastmasters in 25 categories including membership, educational awards, marriage, fancy cars, vacations, weather-related issues, and sports. The three who got the most stories were anchors on the QCTV evening news. They were Dallas Bagsby, Catriona Younger and (unfortunately I can’t remember the third person).
We concluded the evening with a rousing game of “Win All You Can”.
Saturday, April 29, 2006
Sherri Wood, 2nd Year Region IV International Director presented information about the new Competent Leader program and explained the new educational tracks. See a summary of changes...
District 64 Traveling Toastmasters Troup presented a very funny interactive skit on how guests are treated at Toastmasters meetings. We could all identify with the elements of the skit. While it was an exaggeration, it was so very, very true.
Bev Phillips: From Idea to Speech. We reviewed brainstorming and mind mapping . An idea to try is taking one subject/theme and use it for the speeches in the Communication manual. Example: Sports – dislike of sports, sportsmanship, football, overpaid athletes, role-models, sports teaches discipline, etc.
Evaluation Speech Contest:
The speech to be evaluated was presented by Lyle Appleyard - Two Squirrels Fighting.

Communication & Leadership Award: Dr. James Tallmon, Dickinson State University.
Dr. Tallmon is the Director of the Theodore Roosevelt Program that is beginning it's 6th year. This year’s program consists of about 100 students, of which approximately 10% are International students. Dr. Tallmon is very familiar with the Toastmasters program. He has his CTM and thought he was working on his CL and ATM-B designation when he left SDSU. When he was at South Dakota State University, they had a Toastmasters program on campus.
